Nintendo DSi

I spent the weekend promoting the new Nintendo DSi at the Southern Women's Show in Richmond and I have to say that the game Personal Trainer Cooking is awesome. Its actually not really a game at all, but a virtual cook book and chef school.

At first I was thinking that it was cooking for dummies, but its not. There is a section called cooking A to Z that has how to videos and instructions some of which were above my level of culinary expertise. After spending a few minutes on it though I learned how to devein shrimp and how to julienne.

The program has 250 recipes to choose from and they aren't dumbed down just becuase its on a Nintendo. Nope, if you are looking for a Thai recipe you're going to see plenty of recipes calling for fish sauce. Don't despair if you don't have that in your fridge, it gives you substitutions and has a shopping list built in. I wasn't really digging the shopping list, but something that is cool is how it lets you search for recipes. You can search by country, by ingredient or by requirement. Requirement includes things like cooking time or calories. Yes, it really does show you how many calories are in each dish!

There are so many features, but my favorite part of the program is that it talks to you and then recognizes your voice so that you can talk back to it. That means that if you've got your hands covered in raw chicken you don't have to pick up the stylus and get salmonella all over your DSi. All you have to do is say, "continue" or "repeat".
